GOPIO Queensland Celebrates International Women’s Day

“A balanced world is a better world”, the Global theme for International Women Day (IWD) 2019, aims at raising worldwide awareness of gender-balance. Be it workplace, community or home front, myriad people are making a concerted effort towards a “Balance for Better” via intangible actions. As a result, from grassroots to highest authorities’ awareness is raising to highly visible campaigns and celebrations over the globe.
Aligning with the theme, GOPIO Qld celebrated IWD 2019 on Friday, the 15th of March at Delights of Paradise Brisbane. GOPIO Qld pro - Kavita Khullar said, “the event is to celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness against gender bias and to take effective action for equality”.
GOPIO Qld collaborated with JK Events Qld to organise IWD celebration. Amarjot Goraya, the newly appointed 2nd Vice President of GOPIO Qld, introduced GOPIO Qld Chapter to the audience and President Vinita Khushal, formally welcomed everyone to the event. Vinita Khushal is the principal solicitor of Bridges Family Law and spoke on self-empowerment and how to conquer everyday stress.
Dr. Sonu Haikerwal from Haans Medical Center, Gold Coast talked about women's health and general wellbeing, which had been an eye opener for the listeners. Dr. Deepti Parwani, winner of Mrs. India Global 2019, explained how to chase dreams by managing work life balance.
Mrs. Usha Chandra, Immediate Past President of GOPIO Qld, shared details about the upcoming GOPIO's iconic event India Day Fair 2019 and list of GOPIO Qld’s events for the rest of the year. Kavita Khullar, Director UBS Accountants recited her self-written poems on Balance for Better that enthralled the audience. Indrani Ganguly, author of book titled The Rose and The Thorn, shared her inspiration and motivation behind writing this book.
The celebration was spiced up by Bollywood songs, belly dancing and Bollywood workshop by DJ Desi, guests also participated in several games winning prizes. Raffle prize winners were the grinners. The jewellery stalls were mesmerizing, while the zeal and enthusiasm at the Bollywood workshop presented by Sajita More had a twist of its own.
